Was he just a hi-tech CM who has made the city of Hyderabad into IT hub. No..No..he is more than that and the sad thing is that media and people outside Andhra Pradesh don't know about him and his legacy (though good and bad).
Short Biography and his achievements:
- India's youngest chief Minister at the age of 48.
- He was the longest serving chief minister of Andhra Pradesh from 1995 to 2004.
- Survived two attempts of attacks.
- He started IT and Biotech parks in Hyderabad.
- Janmabhoomi program - a program that encourages people to be part of the development of their region.
- DWACRA groups for women.
- Computerization of government records and administration (e-seva).
- Increase in infrastructure like roads, railways, air traffic to Hyderabad, transport, flyovers, communication (more importance was given to Hyderabad).
- Actively involved in government-public projects (though private players benefitted more during his tenure but with some strict controls on the players).
- Gave importance to games and build more than a dozen stadiums with world class infrastructure.
- Full command and control of government missionary and administration.
- Brought institute like IIIT, Indian School of Business to Hyderabad
Positives:
- Good administrative and organization skills.
- Have good command on Inter-personnel skills and can make other person listen to his version.
- Good with numbers, presentations and technical/management communication.
- Uses government machinery and other types of survey/methods.
- Political manipulator (don’t know whether to use this word or not but very good at handling opposition parties IN and OUT of Assembly and now his own party men).
- Uses Media (both Print and Visual) media for publicity and his propaganda.
- Has a vision for himself, party and state.
- Normally don't express his feelings about people, particularly his own party men.
- Is clear about what he things about issues and will not change his mind normally.
- Was able to attract big business people to Hyderabad with his vision and presentation.
- No communal rites during his tenure and was truly secular even when he had tied with BJP.
- Very strict on Naxalites and Maoist
Negatives:
- Very Strict and Commanding.
- Irritating and manipulating with everyone and everything.
- Over confidence and Very Insecure.
- Treated government employees very badly and not fulfilling their demands.
- Lost touch with ground realities after first term and starting believing in Corporate Governance.
- Neglected Agriculture and common man needs.
- Had more confidence in his surveys/core team and not on experienced/ground level party leaders.
- More privatizing and handing key government domains like electric power, education to privatization (I hate BABU for trying to privatize even GOVERNMENT LIBRARIES also).
- Traditional industries suffered when IT/BT industry got all importance.
- Infrastructure increased and Irrigation projects suffered.
- Many suicides and hunger deaths during his tenure (sad was his approach to them)
